Engineering firm, McCormick Taylor, recently relocated one of their offices to a new building on the Baltimore waterfront, aiming to optimize its scenic views while also adhering to a streamlined budget for their project. They wanted to maintain the comfort and aesthetic appeal of the company’s high-end, Philadelphia headquarters, but on a smaller scale suited to the new location’s needs. In addition, the new space had to adapt to today’s increasing trend of remote work by offering flexible, non-permanent workstations and ample meeting and collaboration spaces.

COFCO, a Henricksen Company (COFCO), became involved in the furniture selections for this project due to a previously established relationship with the client. The team at COFCO worked closely with McCormick Taylor to provide furnishings that both adhered to their budget and met their design objectives.

McCormick Taylor’s owner, who started in the mailroom and rose to buy the company, emphasized an employee-centric approach to the design. He involved employees in the furniture selection through focus groups and committees that could provide input on furniture and design choices, ensuring the new office met the team’s needs and preferences.

The new environment implements workstations that aren’t assigned to individual employees, therefore supporting a flexible work environment. The office also includes phone rooms, conference rooms, and extensive meeting spaces. A large café area was designed to accommodate big company meetings. The project featured ancillary furniture throughout, arranged to maximize the waterfront views and create an inviting collaborative environment.

The Baltimore office transformation successfully created a functional, aesthetically pleasing workspace that reflected McCormick Taylor’s commitment to quality and employee satisfaction. The flexible design supports remote work trends while providing sufficient amenities and comfort.
